Xerox or Canon: Toner Compared to Solid Ink

August 27th, 2010 · No Comments · General News

pUp until recently there has been a debate between companies over the benefits of choosing laser over inkjet printing. Over the past several years it appeared that laser printers had proven themselves to be more cost-effective. However, with the introduction of the a href=http://www.inktechnologies.com/xerox-phaser-ink target=_blankXerox solid ink/a printers the whole conversation has changed. Now people are wondering whether or not they should invest in the new technology or if they should remain with laser printing./p
pIt is an interesting place to be in because both technologies meet similar demands from very different directions. Companies that sell laser printers, such as Hewlett-Packard and Canon, know that they can make more profit off their replacement cartridges than they ever would off their printers. They set you up with a high-quality machine for very little money, allowing any person or business to invest in a good printer, because they know that they will profit from your continued business. Xerox, on the other hand, has to charge you a great deal of money for their solid ink printers because they make almost no money off their solid ink sticks. Thus, it is imperative for you to examine your printing habits in order to decide between the different printing methods./p
pLaser printing utilizes a dry ink toner and heat to bond the image to the page, allowing them to focus their technology on being energy efficient and their ink relatively inexpensive. Xerox, Hewlett-Packard, and a href=http://www.inktechnologies.com/canon-toner-cartridges target=_blankCanon toner/a cartridges are able to print several thousand pages before they need to be replaced, which allows them to remain relatively cost-effective even as they provide the companies that sell them with an easy way to make money. This makes laser printers ideal for people, and companies, that plan on printing in volume but who are unsure whether or not they will be printing continuously./p
pSolid ink printers cost less (per page) than laser printers because the ink is inexpensive and the heated roller allows the printer to control exactly how much material is being used per page. They have a long warm up time, because of the heated roller, which means that they are most efficient when they are used for long periods of time, uninterrupted. This makes them ideal for companies that are printing pamphlets, advertisements, letters, or any other type of document that must be produced in large quantities. With the initial cost, however, it will be interesting to see how the new technology affects a href=http://www.inktechnologies.com/xerox-toner-cartridges target=_blankXerox toner cartridge/a sales over the next few years, and whether or not their solid ink printers will overtake their laser printers./p
